Details
If you’re already a great fan of 5.56x45 M855 ammunition – or have just grown too accustomed to M193, and want to give something new a try – then we have got the grandmother of all deals for you today. Eight hundred rounds of Winchester’s green tip ammo, coming in hot!
This cartridge’s 62 grain full metal jacket projectile does not have a polymer tip. That’s paint, and it indicates that the frontal section of the bullet’s core is made of steel instead of traditional lead. Its hard tip enables the M855 projectile – aka the “penetrator” – to pierce barriers as rugged as sheet metal within ranges of 650 yards. In the event that the M855 bullet strikes soft tissue, it is likely to tilt to the side and split into two halves.
This isn’t military surplus ammo, although it was made at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. As such it is loaded with new brass cases that weren’t polished after they were annealed, as well as crimped noncorrosive Boxer primers. Its 62 grain weight means the M855 bullet will receive its best in-flight stability after clearing a barrel with a 1:8", 1:9" or 1:10" rate of twist, but don’t fret it too much if your barrel twist is a little slower or faster.
This ammunition will attract a magnet.
