Details

As one of (if not the) oldest, self-contained metallic cartridges still in production, there is really little else that can be said to support the .22 Short’s utility. Primarily used for indoor target and gallery shooting, the round still finds use by trappers and introductory shooting to new enthusiasts. Its low report and virtually nil recoil match nicely to the bulk pricing economy, making it still a popular choice for plinking, training, and turning many an old Sears tube fed, bolt action into a rather high capacity rifle (making them a surprising violation in several states). Vostok’s 28 grain lead, round nosed bullet has an approximate muzzle velocity of 1150 ft per sec with 85 ft lbs. These 7200 rounds are a great choice for keeping skills up and squirrel populations down.

These cartridges were made by the Russian Vostok company approximately 40 years ago. Predominantly for service training as well as competitions, these cartridges epitomize the Russian mentality of bulk manufacture with long term storage for ready use. The wax sealed bullets prevent moisture from collecting within or outside the cartridge, making them as good as the day they were made. Dependable ignition is coupled with impressive accuracy, who could ask for anything more?
