Details

The 6.8 Special Purpose Carbine was developed with the purpose of increasing the terminal ballistics of the government issue M4 carbine. Experience in both Iraq and Afghanistan left the US military with the feeling that the standard 5.56 NATO cartridge had less knock down potential than the opposition’s ubiquitous 7.62X39 Russian. The 6.8 SPC was designed to be used in the AR platform with an upper receiver swap out and minimal adjustments to a GI issue mag. While it was successful in offering comparable performance, however, the US military let the economics of a full scale upgrade end the project. However, the cartridge found acceptance in limited numbers among special force units. Commercially, hunters found that the cartridge gives their AR platform the ballistic performances of a .30-30 and, surprising to no one, it has found great acceptance where legal to use. Silver State Armory’s soft point, 110 grain bullet can reach 2500 ft per sec with over 1500 ft lbs of energy. Suitable for range training or target shooting, this is also an impressive hunting round for the AR platform, or any specialized built bolt action rifle.

Silver State Armory uses the latest technological processes to manufacture bullets, cases and powder. While well known to professional competitors for their more traditional rounds (.308 and .223 Remington), they also produce one of the finest lines of 6.8 SPC ammunition on the market. These 200 rounds are a good appetizer to shooters of this caliber while being a source of the best once fired cases after the fact.
