Details

When Winchester introduced their .308 caliber in 1952, it was the result of several decades to produce a short cased .30 cal that began at the end of World War I. While firearms geniuses Browning and Garand kept the .30-06 serving as a semi and automatic round despite initial cycling issues, US ammunition makers kept looking into alternatives for sportsmen. The .308 is virtually physically identical to the 7.62x51 NATO round adopted two years later and factory produced rounds of the two can be fired in each other’s chambers. The 180 grain Nossler partition bullet by S&B has a muzzle velocity of around 2400 feet per second with the same foot pounds of energy. The Nossler bullet has two chambers of lead core separated by a copper partition to retain the mass and drive for penetration in the rear while allowing the forward lead chamber to expand for maximum wound channel. It is ideal for hunting boar to elk.

The Sellier & Bellot is well known in Europe as one of the longest running munitions manufacturers still in business. Begun in the 1820’s the company has crossed the pond to the states and provides both range and purpose specific ammunition. Brass reloadable cases offer additional value along with these premium bullets.
