Details

The .338 Lapua was developed I the 1980’s specifically as a high powered, long range rifle round seconded only to the .50 Browning Machine Gun (BMG) caliber. It was introduced in 1989 as a joint venture between Finnish and British designers. Utilized by both NATO soldiers as a sniper rifle – it is being considered as a replacement for the .300 Winchester Mag currently in use as a standard sniper round - and by private hunters on the plains of Africa. The 300 grain hollow point, boat tail bullet by Sellier & Bellot leaves the muzzle at 2713 feet per second with an astounding 4900 foot pounds of energy. That is almost two tons of force exiting the barrel, and there should be some appropriate amount of recoil expected. This is a match grade bullet that is also suitable for hunting large game or simply used for long range competitions.

Every modern advancement of ammunition over the last two centuries has been witnessed and participated in Sellier & Bellot. This Czech based ammunition manufacturer has provided complete cartridges and munition components throughout this period and is well established among European safari hunters as well as sport shooters in the United States. S&B also produces their rounds on boxer primed, quality cases for handloaders seeking to produce their own, custom rounds in this caliber.
