7.5x55mm Swiss Ammo
7.5 Swiss Ammo Info & History
The Swiss military has used 7.5x55mm ammo for well over a century. Also known as the "Schmidt-Rubin," the 7.5x55 Swiss can also be used effectively for both target shooting and hunting.
This well-balanced cartridge is most commonly encountered in the GP11 specification. Though well made and highly accurate, Mil-spec GP11 ammo uses Berdan primers; reloaders may want to consider alternatives from Prvi Partizan or Hornady. GP11 ammunition is a good choice for K31 rifles, but should not be used in Model 1889s due to its increased pressure.
A typical round of 7.5x55 Swiss ammo fires a heavy 174 grain full metal jacket bullet at a muzzle velocity of 2,560 feet per second. Soft point ammunition is also available and works well against deer, boar, and other medium sized game.
