6.5x55mm Swedish Ammo

The 6.5x55mm Swedish was introduced in 1894 and was used by the militaries of Sweden and Norway for a little over a century. Though not as powerful as the .30-06 or 8mm Mauser, it is an accurate, moderate-recoiling round that has adapted well to civilian hunting use. 6.5x55mm Swedish ammo works well against deer, moose, reindeer, boar, and a variety of other game animals with appropriate soft point ammunition.

A typical 6.5mm Swedish load fires a 140 grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of about 2,700 feet per second. The high ballistic coefficient of the 6.5mm projectile results in excellent accuracy; this caliber is historically well liked in competitive target shooting.

Notable rifles firing 6.5x55mm Swedish ammunition include the Swedish Mauser Model 1896 and Norwegian Krag-Jorgensen Model 1894. Ammo can be had from a surprising variety of manufacturers including Nosler, Federal, Prvi Partizan, and Sellier & Bellot. Most ammo in this caliber is of the full metal jacket or soft point variety for target shooting and hunting, respectively.
