The .30-06 was the next development of the .30-06 Springfield – the caliber the United States Army adopted in 1903 for the Springfield rifle. Over the next three years, data on the German “spitzer” type bullet, which had a pointed shape, was made available and the applied to the .30-06, which was of course introduced three years later – same great cartridge, new and improved pointed bullet.
