Remington introduced the 7mm magnum in 1962 as one of the first in the necked down .375 H&H derivatives. As a member of these new “belted” magnums to provide consistent headspace control, the cartridge was well accepted by the sport shooting population and sponsored a few similar cartridges from competing manufacturers. One of the characteristics that set the Remington apart, however, is the narrower bullet which has a longer sectional density for stability to and deeper penetration into the target.
