Details
Maybe firearm manufacturers will one day have the good sense to start offering derringers chambered for 50 BMG. But until that day comes, we’ll just have to figure out creative new ways to tuck 35-pound rifles into our boots.
At least PMC has the good sense to load high-quality 50 BMG ball ammo. This cartridge is loaded with the 660 grain full metal jacket boat tail projectile we all know and love. PMC measured its 3,080 fps muzzle velocity with a 36” barrel, so you should expect lower-velocity performance if you have a Barrett Model 82A1 or anything else with a shorter barrel.
PMC reports the round’s G1 BC out of a 36” barrel at 0.701, which translates to supersonic velocity until approximately 1,920 yards. Great if you want to pay for admission to one rifle range and shoot targets in a different rifle range located in a neighboring county.
PMC is the South Korean military’s key ammo supplier, which basically means this ammo will only remain available so long as the North Korean military continues to behave itself. This factory fresh ammo’s new brass cases are correctly annealed (and weren’t polished up to hide that fact), and its primers aren’t corrosive.
