PMC - Full Metal Jacket - 55 Grain 5.56x45mm Ammo - 20 Rounds
Details
US Continental Army Command began searching for a new rifle round shortly after adopting the 7.62x51 NATO round in 1954. The 7.62 was found to be acceptable as a replacement for the .30-06 but for sustained automatic fire from a handheld weapon still too unwieldly for individual use. The requirements for a smaller cartridge were set forth and Armalite, along with Winchester and obviously Remington, set forth to produce the new round. The result was the .223 Remington, from which the 5.56 was shortly developed and adopted in 1963. The 5.56 is loaded to marginally higher pressure making it not safe to fire from .223 chambers, however, the .223 can be fired from 5.56. The 5.56 full metal jacket by PMC has a muzzle velocity of 3,120 feet per second with 1,189 foot pounds of energy. This is a range training and target shooting round that is also acceptable for competitive shooting.
