Since its introduction in 1934 as the first - or at least one of the most successful - magnum rounds, the .357 has gone from law enforcement to home defense and hunting, serving admirable in all applications. Initially proposed by Smith & Wesson to give revolver trained police officers a ballistic advantage, this round has been adopted by private users for hiking and home defense as well as used for medium sized game. The 158 grain lead flat nosed bullet by Magtech has a muzzle velocity of 1085 feet per second with 413 foot pounds of energy. This is a training and target shooting round that is safe to use in tube mag firearms without fear of recoil setting off an accidental discharge in the magazine, thanks to its flat nose. As such, while loaded down from full magnum potential, it is an appropriate choice for use in single action style firearms for competitions with a little bit of range.
