The [marginally] heavier grain and slower round is appreciated for having a little less recoil so you are less likely to get beaten up too much while working on your grouping, and the flat nose round prints better so you can actually see your hits cleanly on the paper. This reputably "big and slow" round for the .40 is also a good intro round for new 40 shooters while providing decent enough ballistics - 990 feet per second with 390+ ft lbs of energy - to be a defensive round: no one wants to get hit by that.
