This cartridge shows off the 40 grain FTX projectile’s impressively predictable terminal ballistics. The jacketed hollow point is equipped with a Flex Tip: a polymer plug that prevents debris from compacting inside the nose cavity. The Flex Tip doesn’t just preserve the FTX’s ability to expand after piercing a threat’s clothing. It also facilitates faster, wider expansion by compressing into the bullet during penetration.
This ammo is loaded with premium virgin (non-plated) brass cases, as well as propellant that emits very little light on ignition. That’s an excellent bonus if you’re ever forced to fire this ammo at night, as its muzzle flash is too dim to blind eyes that have already adjusted to low lighting. Hornady recorded this round’s 1,810 fps muzzle velocity with a 4.8” barrel.
