Varmint hunting. It sounds simple enough, although it can be devilishly tricky if you encounter varmints that truly don’t want to get shot. But when you hunt with Hornady’s Varmint Express line of 17 HMR ammunition, the varmints will have no say in the matter!
This cartridge features a heavyweight 20 grain eXtreme Terminal Performance (XTP) jacketed hollow point projectile. The lead-core, copper-jacketed XTP will zip out of a 24” barrel at a velocity of 2,375 fps, at which point its 0.125 G1 ballistic coefficient will ensure that it remains supersonic until approximately 245 yards. Zero in on a 200-yard target with 1.5” high sights and observe a trajectory that peaks at 5.3”. (Drop at 300 yards would be about -26.8”.)
This round’s match-accurate bullet doesn’t merely seek out its target with unerring precision. Once it’s reached the varmint, it will set about producing quick and thoroughly lethal terminal expansion. The varmint will not be very thrilled about that, but the crows will be delighted.
