Details
Hornady Critical Duty ammo is made for cops – but no badge is required if you want to own and fire this superlative 357 Magnum self-defense ammunition!
Hornady loads this round with a very special jacketed hollow point bullet. It is the FlexLock, which features an InterLock band that mechanically secures its core and jacket together and a Flex Tip that completely obstructs its hollow point nose cavity. These features are why the InterLock excels at the FBI test protocol for terminal ballistics. The InterLock promotes peak weight retention, so the bullet can penetrate deeply even if it must conquer a barrier before arriving at the threat. The Flex Tip prevents debris from clogging the nose cavity, thus preserving its capacity for broad terminal expansion.
Please be advised that this is not abnormally powerful ammo. Hornady recorded the 135 grain bullet’s 1,275 fps muzzle velocity and resultant 487 muzzle energy with an 8” vented barrel. That’s twice as long as the test barrel many American manufacturers use for 357 Mag, which means you can anticipate a significantly lower muzzle velocity out of a 6” or 4” barrel.
This ammo is loaded with low-flash propellant: a bonus which will conserve your eyesight’s acclimation to nighttime conditions. Its new brass cases are also plated with nickel, which fights off corrosion and speeds up feeding and extraction by minimizing metal-on-metal friction.
