Right off the bat, this round’s 45 grain bullet only seems to have a low muzzle velocity. Most manufacturers record their 22 Mag loads’ muzzle velocities with a long rifle barrel. Hornady recorded this round’s 1,000 fps muzzle velocity with a 1.875” barrel, because they know people carry subcompacts for personal protection.

A heavier bullet tends to penetrate soft tissue deeper, but this round’s bullet isn’t just beefy. It’s the FTX: a jacketed hollow point with a supple polymer insert that prevents the nose cavity from becoming inoperable as a result of clogging with fabric or other debris. The FTX therefore reliably enters its target with all of its capacity for terminal expansion intact!

This ammo is loaded with flash-suppressed propellant – a feature which prevents you from getting blinded while opening fire in a dark setting. Its cases are also nickel-plated, and therefore more resistant to corrosion and failures to feed and extract.
