Hornady - FTX - 185 Grain 45 ACP Ammo - 200 Rounds

You’re a 45 ACP guy. You like its American roots. You like its smooth and predictable recoil. You like its excellent close-range accuracy. You like its wide bullet’s higher chance of striking one of the threat’s vital organs.

Of course, none of the 45 ACP’s characteristic merits are worth a hill of beans unless you select high-quality ammo for self-defense. That’s why you’re a Hornady Critical Defense guy, too.

This cartridge’s FTX projectile is a jacketed hollow point with a polymer-plugged nose cavity. That is the Flex Tip – a supple insert which preserves the FTX’s capacity for broad and reliable terminal expansion by keeping it unobstructed by fabric and other debris.

This round’s 185 grain FTX gets a 1,000 fps muzzle velocity out of a 3” test barrel. That equates to 360 ft lbs striking energy at 50 yards, or 321 ft lbs at 100 yards. This probably comes as no revelation to you, but the 45 ACP is equipped to neutralize any threat so long as the guy firing it aims correctly.

Critical Defense series ammo features low-flash propellant. Its subdued muzzle flash is a great advantage during a nighttime self-defense scenario, as it keeps your vision better acclimated to your surroundings. In other words, low-flash propellant helps preserve your ability to see the threat. Hornady has loaded this ammo with nickel-plated brass cases in the past.
