380 Auto Ammo
John Browning and Colt introduced the .380 ACP ammo cartridge in 1908. While popular in Europe from the beginning, 380 auto ammo only became really popular in the US with the rise of concealed carry. Compact handguns such as the SIG P238, Glock 42, and Ruger LCP chambered in this caliber are discreet while still being significantly more powerful than "mouse guns." Advances in self-defense hollow point ammo also contribute greatly to making this round a viable choice for self-defense.
The .380 ACP (also known as 9mm Short, 9mm Kurz, 9x17mm, and .380 Auto) fires a light bullet of 90-100 grains at a medium muzzle velocity of about 1,000 feet per second. Due to the light, compact nature of most handguns chambered for it, the .380 has a reputation for above-average recoil. This is less of a problem with more target-oriented guns like the Browning Black Label, which is significantly larger and heavier than a typical CCW pistol.
