This cartridge is loaded with a beefier 180 grain bullet. That’s a weight we can confidently recommend for elk hunting, although no whitetail or boar can resist the effect of a 180 grainer. The bullet’s advertised 2,570 fps muzzle velocity conveys a 0.382 G1 BC, which is why it’ll deliver a 200-yard trajectory which rises a mere 2.5” en route (that’s if your rifle’s sights are 1.5” high, of course).

The soft point isn’t a needlessly complicated bullet. It’s got the jacket it needs to prevent deformation during ignition and excessive fragmentation during impact, as well as the unjacketed tip which yields positive expansion during penetration of the target. The SP will strike a 200-yard target with 1,816 ft lbs of energy. Shot placement always counts for a lot – but that’s not exactly a gentle kiss on the cheek, either.
