Details
You don’t have to be a police officer to keep police-grade ammunition in your 40 S&W EDC’s magazine. Federal Law Enforcement Tactical HST is available to every Tom, Dick and Harry who insists on using the best of the best for self-defense. (As a matter of fact, the only difference between this ammo and Federal Personal Defense is its box.)
The HST jacketed hollow point is Federal’s most technologically sophisticated bullet. The JHP’s nose cavity is specifically designed to remain unobstructed upon passing through a barrier, which helps keep the HST bullet’s ability to undergo fast and wide expansion intact. The HST bullet’s durability also enables it to penetrate barriers without shedding a significant portion of its weight, which promotes more consistent penetration depth.
If the .40 cal 165 grain HST bullet hits a block of ballistic gelatin that is shielded by heavy clothing at a velocity of 1,121 fps, it will retain 100% of its weight as it penetrates to a depth of 12.5” and expands to a diameter of 0.70”. Actual results in the field can vary, but Federal’s test data show that this ammo delivers the terminal ballistics the FBI deems most effective for defensive shooting. (Note that Federal recorded this round’s 1,130 fps muzzle velocity with a 4” test barrel.)
The HST cartridge’s smooth-feeding bullet profile and low-friction nickel-plated brass case both help a semi-auto feed and extract with peak efficiency. You can also trust the case’s nickel plating to resist the kind of corrosion that typically results from prolonged exposure to humidity.
