Details
There is only one difference between Federal Premium’s Personal Defense HST and Tactical HST lines of ammunition: the packaging. When you order this case of Minnesota-made 9mm self-defense ammo, you’re getting the same peerless quality law enforcement officers regularly trust their lives with.
This round is loaded with a 147 grain projectile. It is subsonic (1,000 fps out of a 4” barrel), and therefore optimal for suppressor use. It is also powerful: capable of hitting 50 yards with nearly 300 ft lbs of kinetic energy.
The HST jacketed hollow point conquers barriers with relative ease. When the bullet hits ballistic gelatin that is shielded by heavy clothing, it loses 0% of its weight – the reason why it subsequently penetrates to a depth of 12.5”, in addition to expanding to a diameter of approximately 0.69”. Penetration of sheet metal, drywall or plywood removes less than 2% of the bullet’s weight, and does not inhibit its ability to deliver subsequent expansion as it plunges through ballistic gel. Real world results will vary, though suffice to say the HST JHP truly gets the job done.
Federal loads this ammo with nickel-plated brass cases. They are just as reloadable as non-plated brass, but they help a semi-auto cycle more efficiently by reducing metal-on-metal friction. Nickel also helps keep the cases free of tarnishing!
