This cartridge features a 115 grain full metal jacket projectile. It’s the lightest bullet you’ll find in a 9mm target load, and not coincidentally the cheapest 0.355” diameter bullet Federal manufactures. The bullet does not have a nose cavity or any other features that enable terminal expansion – another reason for its cost-effective design. The FMJ’s lead core and copper-alloy jacket leave it completely incapable of attracting a magnet. And because its muzzle velocity is 1,125 fps (out of a 4” barrel), the FMJ also generates relatively recoil – perfect if you’re trying to reduce the muzzle flip that complicates rapid, accurate fire (or you’re just averse to recoil).

Federal’s Champion series ammunition is available with aluminum cases, but this is the brass-cased variety. The new production noncorrosive Boxer-primed brass cases feed smooth, promote clean performance, and are reloadable once they are empty.
