This is the Australian equivalent of 5.56x45 M855. It will attract a magnet.
G’day, mate! This 5.56x45 ammunition was made by our friends in the land down under: Australian Defense Industries, which, as you can imagine, supplies plenty of ammo to the Australian military.
This is 5.56x45 F1 ammunition. It has the same type of 62 grain full metal jacket projectile as a 5.56 M855 round, which means its core is lead in the rear, steel in the front. The only noteworthy difference is that the bullet does not have a green painted tip.
This round’s bullet is designed for penetration of sheet metal and other light barriers. It’s no good for ranges that don’t allow magnetic ammo. It will damage steel targets. Its heavier weight means it’ll exhibit its best accuracy in conjunction with a 1:8”, 1:9” or 1:10” barrel twist. If your barrel twist falls just outside that range, you can still expect perfectly serviceable accuracy at close and midrange.
This isn’t Australian war surplus ammo. It’s newly manufactured ammo, with new reloadable brass cases and 100% noncorrosive Boxer primers. It’s all loose-packed in a mil-spec steel ammo can for safe storage.
