While NATO has put out multiple tenders for a replacement cartridge for the 9mm NATO round, it has yet to wholly replace the cartridge: cost effectiveness and dependability, along with wide spread compliance for logistical purposes keep the round on the frontlines. Not to mention, the tiny, hypervelocity contenders are simply over kill in many circumstances. The result is the 9mm is not going anywhere anytime soon. Unsurprisingly there is a great many national and private arsenals that provide for the cartridge in its “standard” format for military and police service. For the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, this means a 124 grain full metal jacketed round that has a muzzle velocity of 1213 ft per sec and energy of 425 ft lbs.
