Details

Introduced at the end of the 19th century with Smith & Wesson’s larger, hand ejector model revolver, the .38 Special became an instant success for its reliability, accuracy and relatively impressive knock down capacity when compared to similarly sized rounds. A mainstay of law enforcement for much of the later century, it is also very popular among recreational and professional target shooters for the same reasons. The wad cuter round is particularly popular for target shooting as it is a lightly recoiling load with a bullet that makes clean holes in paper targets. At close range, the wadcutter is also considered a competent defense round in jurisdictions that prohibit defense specific cartridges.

The 148 grain bullet by Winchester has a muzzle velocity of 710 feet per second with 166 foot pounds of energy. This is a delightfully fun training and introductory round for new shooters as well as competitors.

Winchester ammunition from the “white box” maintains the standards of dependability and quality that so many firearms enthusiasts expect from the name. Loaded in boxer primed brass that handloaders seek specifically for its superior manufacture, these low pressure cartridges are guaranteed to offer numerous reloads.

Just about any 38spcl ammo will work in revolvers. But some shooters still have their (semi-auto) S&W Model 52 & .38 cal 1911s. With fewer people shooting "Bullseye" matches, factories have cut way back on the standard 148 full wadcutter target ammo. Remington has ceased production of its wonderful waddies. Winchester may still be making them. Anything you can do to make the Winchester 148 available would be appreciated.
