Developed to upsize the government issued M4 carbine, .300 AAC Blackout ammo was meant to giver better knockdown ballistics at close to medium range. With a case slightly shorter than the 7.62x39 cartridge it was set in direct competition with, the 7.62x35mm Blackout can be loaded with a greater variety of purpose specific bullets. Not adopted for any official military use, it remains a popular choice for AR builders looking to have magazine compatibility – it feeds reliably off of standard STANAG mags – but a heavier close-range punch. This 135 grain FTX tipped bullet by Hornady has a muzzle velocity of 2085 feet per second with 1303 foot pounds of energy. It is well suited for training, but specifically designed for hunting or personal defense.

Hornady FTX Custom bullets use the polymer tip for superior accuracy that then compresses to initiate a controlled expansion. Their Interlock ring design then maintains bullet mass by keeping jacket and core together, ensuring none of that velocity is bled off, driving the projectile deep and wide for maximum terminal results. Hornady components remain the most desired for custom reloaders, but these completed cartridges, complete with boxer primed cases, are ready to trek out into the woods today.
